Himmelweg
Puppet design and making, and performer
After a first glimpse, Himmelweg (Path to heaven) is a historical theatre show. It actually is -wants to be- a show about nowadays. It is about a man who looks like almost everybody that we know. He has a sincere will to help others; he wants to be giving; he’s afraid of the pain of others. However, he’s not strong enough to stop trusting what he’s told and shown. He’s not strong enough to see with his own eyes and name things with his own words. He settles for the images that others give to him. And for the words they tell him. “Path to heaven”, for instance. It’s not enough to find out that “Path to heaven” can be the name of hell. He’s not strong enough to see that hell is right beneath his feet. This is the story of a delegate of the Red Cross who is in charge to inspect a concentration camp and who finds an acceptable lie in front of him.
This character is just the starting point. But following his footsteps on this journey through a type of hell which doesn’t look like it we’ll find other not less contemporary chacters, which aren’t less close to home either.

“The signature of the puppets, by Sònia Gardés, is mangificient, with charcateristics which remind us more of Kantor’s dead mannequins than classical marionettes.”
